Villa Pandolfi, formerly Villa Ida, is located in San Silvestro, a few kilometers from the city and the sea, between Pescara and Francavilla al mare, not far from Chieti. The villa is an ancient building dating back to the mid-1800s, purchased together with the gardens and surrounding vegetable gardens, from a noble Theatine family for one of the promised daughters, Ida in bride. The building work was completed around 1880 by the next owner, Adamo Pandolfi, owner of a thriving tailoring business. The house kept for many years, at least until 1910 the name of Villa Ida, as evidenced by postcards and photographs of the time. Subsequently the owner changed its name to Villa Pandolfi, a testimony of the intimate and deep bond he felt for the inherited family residence by all his descendants.
The villa consisted of 18 rooms, frescoed and furnished in Art Nouveau style, with bright windows overlooking the gardens, shaded by wisteria. The rooms on the ground floor, with vaulted ceilings carriage, housed the warehouses and for a period of time also the breeding of silkworms silk, for the tailoring business. The first and second floors housed the family members Pandolfi.
The top floor consisted of the turret overlooking the sea, with a panoramic terrace from
which to admire the Majella and the Gran Sasso, the sea and the profile of the many countries that dot the
surrounding hills.
During the Second World War, in 1943, the Villa was requisitioned by the High Command German as its HQ. The family was removed and moved to the adjacent ones campaigns. The furnishings were used and then destroyed by Nazi Officers when they fled to north. The house was also bombarded from the sea by the Allied troops, which it damaged the building and the ancient secular trees.
After the war, the Pandolfi family returned to live in their family home restored and where the current heirs continue to live. Today the villa keeps everything intact the old charm of the beginning of the last century, half hidden by old trees, surrounded by silence of shady gardens and sunny vegetable gardens where secular olive trees and vines continue to produce
much appreciated oil and wine.
The Pepe Rosa apartment, which is waiting for you, takes its name from the tree that shade the terrace on the garden; its rooms retain the original high vaults, ensuring the visitor protection from the summer heat. Immersed in greenery and silence, the guest will be able to spend an unforgettable stay, savoring moments of absolute serenity in the garden or on the sea view terrace of the Villa, after intense days at the beach or excursions to discover the unexpected and fascinating cultural itineraries of the province Pescara and Abruzzo.
